WHY SPAY/NEUTER?

*****************************************************************

For each CAT we spay and neuter, we prevent the birth of 74 unwanted kittens in ONE YEAR.

For each DOG we spay/neuter, we prevent the birth of 100 unwanted puppies in ONE YEAR. ~The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)

                    *   NATIONAL DATABASES  *   KY SPAY/NEUTER  *

                *  KY TNR (TRAP/NEUTER/RELEASE FOR FERAL CATS)  *

*****************************************************************

  • 70,000 puppies and kittens are born every day in the U.S.

  • Between four million and six million pets are euthanized every year because they are homeless.

  • That means between 11,000 and 16,000 pets are euthanized every day simply because they are homeless.

  • An animal in a shelter is killed every 1.5 seconds.

  • Only one animal in 10 born in the U.S. gets a good home that lasts a lifetime.

Spaying and neutering helps reverse the tragedy of pet overpopulation, reduces your pet's chances of developing deadly, costly medical problems, and improves your pet's behavior.

SNAP (Spay/Neuter Assistance Program) and Free Spay/Neuter Clinics
: Each client
completes SNAP application.  The SNAP program is for individual pet owners who
need assistance in getting their pets spayed or neutered. The client pays as much as
they can afford of the cost of the spay/neuter surgery. Friends of the Shelter will pay
any remaining expense for the operation, keeping in mind that the more each client
pays, the more people we can help.  In addition, each animal will receive current
vaccinations costing between $9.00 and $16.00, and paid for by the client. This
means that the client will pay at least $9.00/animal, and then as much of the
remaining cost of surgery as they desire
